The Greene County Fair has full slate of activities

Fair Week, July 6-11

After a limited 2020 Greene County Fair, the Fair board, led by president Connor Juergensen, is planning a fair like those enjoyed before the pandemic. The Greene County Fairgrounds will be bustling next week as 4-H and FFA members, their families, and people of all ages enjoy a traditional county fair July 6-11.

The fair begins Tuesday morning, July 6, for 4-H members with non-livestock exhibits. Judging of static exhibits will start at 8:30 am. Swine, beef pen of 3, and rabbits and poultry check in at 5 pm.

Sheep and goats, lead beef, and horses check in Wednesday.

Exhibits for open judging (non-4-H members and adults) will be accepted Thursday from 1 to 7 pm to at Clover Hall.

The schedule for 4-H/FFA shows follows:
• Tuesday, July 6 – Dog agility, 6 pm.
• Wednesday, July 7 – Poultry show, 1 pm; Dog show, 5 pm.
• Thursday, July 8 – Swine show, 8 am; Rabbit show, 8:30 am; Horse & pony show, 11 am.
• Friday, July 9 – Sheep show, 8 am; Beef pen of 3 judging, 9 am; Goat show, 2:30 pm; Fashion style show, 5:30 pm.
• Saturday, July 10 – Beef show, 8 am; Horse fun show, 12 pm; 4-H Communications at the Fair, 1 pm.

In a change from previous years, the Fair Queen contest will be held Wednesday at 7 pm in Clover Hall. That will allow the new fair queen to preside over the larger livestock shows at the fair. Contestants this year are Hannah Curtis, Ashlyn Frederick, Makala Kafer and Lauryn Killion.

There will be three evenings of grandstand entertainment. Leading off on Friday, July 9, is the All Star Monster Truck tour. Producer of the show, All Star Motorsport Productions, is the only safety-certified nationwide company that specializes in providing high quality monster truck entertainment specifically designed for fairs.

Saturday will feature the Champion Seed Western Series tractor and truck pull. Several classes of tractors and trucks promise all the sights, sounds and smells of pulls.

The Grand River Rodeo returns Sunday night. The Grand River Rodeo is a fan favorite at the fair and includes bareback bronc riding, break-away roping, bull riding, barrel racing, steer wrestling and more.

Grandstand entertainment begins at 7 pm each night. Admission is $10 for each show. Pit gate admission for the tractor/truck pull is $15.

Clover Café, a fundraiser for the Greene County 4-H program, will be open from 5 to 9 pm Tuesday, and from 7:30 am to 9 pm Wednesday through Sunday. For many county residents, a 4-H beefburger is a requirement of a good summer, but there’s much more on the menu. Several lunch and dessert specials are on the menu.

Community barbecues will be served Friday and Saturday. The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will serve hamburgers Friday while the Town & Country Band performs. The Pork Producers and Lamb Producers will serve pork burgers and lamb burgers Saturday.

Serving for both barbecues will begin at 5:30 pm in the north exhibit hall.
